Making W98 ignore new hardware/automatically install drivers

Ok, so this is a question slightly unrelated to this forum, but given the amount of bright people around here maybe someone will have the answer. I'm making a custom flavour of Windows 98 to be booted into a RAM disk using GRUB4DOS. GRUB4DOS, for those who don't know, is an extension of GRUB that go...

Q6600: 32-bit vs 64-bit Windows

I'm asking this question to help a friend, so I can't just test it out, which is what I had done if I had this question. He has a computer with a Q6600. (Core 2 Quad) He's mainly using it for CPU intensive programs (Music software) that only come in 32-bit versions. Should he go for a 32-bit or 64-b...

The chipset is i855GM. CPUZ says Bus speed=100 MHz, Rated FSB=400 MHz and the memory frequency is 133 MHz. Intel i855GM only supports 100MHz FSB which is FSB400. So, not even an FSB533 would work... Damn! Socket 479: Pentium M /Celeron M / VIA C7 Socket M: Intel Core CPUs you can not insert o...

The chipset is i855GM. CPUZ says Bus speed=100 MHz, Rated FSB=400 MHz and the memory frequency is 133 MHz. When you say not pin compatible, exactly what do you mean? Will it still fit into the socket? Or are there different versions of socket 479? And, assuming that the sockets are not too different...

Possible CPU's in Dell Latitude D600?

I'm considering changing the CPU in my Dell Latitude D600. If CPUZ is telling the truth, the CPU is a Pentium M in a Socket 479, clocked at 1.6 GHz, and with an FSB of 400 MHz. Heat problems apart, what CPU's can I put in it? Is a higher FSB a problem? Say, hypothetically, that I put a Core Duo/Core...

Using a touchpad for custom things

I'm looking for a way to use the XY pad on my laptop for custom things. I already have a stick mouse (Like the ones usually present on Thinkpads) I'm a computer musician, and I'd ultimately like to use the touchpad as an X-Y midi pad. If anyone knows how to that specifically, it would be gold. Other...

ASM routine for enabling PIII L2 cache

I hope I'm asking this question in the right section of the forum.
As the subject line suggests, I'm looking for a routine (Code or pseudo-code) for enabling the L2 cache for PIII cpu's.
