There's just one jumper on the drive to set it as master. No slave on the primary. This drive doesn't have a 32 gig clip setting.

I booted with a 98SE startup floppy and ran FORMAT on the logical drive in the extended partition. It saw the full capacity.

Then I tried another test. I used FDISK to delete that logical drive and extended partition then rebooted. Now FDSISK is only seeing this 40 gig drive as a 32 gig, claiming ...

I used a 3rd party utility on the drive, on Windows 7 x64, to redo the partitions. Now on the old box I ran scandisk in windows on both partitions then restarted in DOS mode and ran scandisk on both partitions.

No errors reported. I didn't change the BIOS setting from LBA.

So there's still ...

It did the same thing with a single primary 15 gig partition created with FDISK on 98SE boot disk. FORMAT would only see 4 gig.

The last release is what I flashed before doing anything with the board. If a 128 gig patch can be done, and done correctly, that should clear up the issue with the 40 gig, right?

Drive is a Seagate ST340015A firmware 3.15 P/N 9Y3001-031 S/N 5LAEWW1L (Searching now to see if there's a firmware update for the drive.)

I think you'll have to find a slower CPU so it'll boot, then you'll be able to flash the latest BIOS with support for the 800Mhz PIII.

The flash program said it was flashing the boot block. I ran aflash, it asked for the file name, I entered that and flashed it.

I think if you open the bios file with a Hex editor you can actually see that line in clear text. Shouldn't be too much trouble to change that.

I flashed it with the beta BIOS, rebooted fine.

Figured out that for bios patcher, cbrom220.exe has to be renamed to cbrom.exe ('thanks' for not specifically mentioning that, whomever wrote the scant documentation) and ran it on that BIOS.

I'll try a faster speed, but I don't think this BIOS has anything between 133 and 147. If it'll run (stable) at 147 that'll be a big hellz yeah.

The 1800+ POSTs at 100/100 (IDs as 1200Mhz XP)
112/112 (IDs as a XP 1500+)
and 124/124 (IDs as a 1600+) but nothing happens when set to 133/133 or H/W Trap and I have to clear the CMOS.

RAM doesn't make a difference, one or two sticks of PC2100 or PC2700.

That beta BIOS only supports the early Tulatin steppings. Apparently there's room to patch in the later ones without having to remove something else.

If it only has 28bit LBA, it'd be nice to patch it to 48bit LBA, just because!
