I did some tests and the BIOS doesn't restore to defaults when I modify nvram and symcmos still reports the modified value after a reboot. I've worked out what it is.... I have an Acer Aspire 5633 laptop which reports Phoenix BIOS 3.5. I updated the three NVRAM locations mentioned above.
