I am having the same prob.. Only problem with me is the bios doesn't have speedstep.. ACPI update/mod needed but its a phoenix so not many tools avail.

Use the Boot Block Recovery system in the laptop.. As long as you have a USB floppy drive, and a blank disk, you can reflash it at boot..
