what about flashing the correct bios? if you can't just send it in to Acer.

btw. the version you flashed can't be completely wrong because the system itself AND the external monitor still works.

i`ve been posting to another section but still had no answer :(.
i flashed my 1640z with a bios for an ATI graphics chipset, when mine has an intel one.
long story short... i was able to reflash it with the correct version now,
its booting normally, however the laptop screen will not work ...

i have an acer 1640z and did a bios flash with the latest bios for this laptop..
however, it was the wrong version in terms of the video chip... instead doing it with the intel graphics version, i did it with the ati drivers... :( ... mea culpa

so now im writing from the crashed laptop, with a hooked external monitor..
installed latest bios... but cant get it how to make video work for the laptop display as well...

btw its the same model of laptop as urs 1640z ...

as much as i remember i had bios version 3a20 or 3a22
on the support website all i get is 19 and 24...

i also have the backed up bios, when tried flashing from windows..
the crisis method doesnt work even with the backed up bios...

will try later ...

so did anything work in the end?
i have the same problem...

the crisis recovery method doesnt seem to work for me...
gets to the point where it reads the fdd from the external fdd drive, sometimes it might restart and do the same thing again, blablabla...
