fje: Your PL issue is mentioned on page 47 of this thread. I think i had the same error you mention (it was over a year ago). If my memory is correct, i think i got the error corrected by unzipping PL files with 7zip. The first time i tried PL it gave me problems. After searching this thread i noti...

I tried to re-configure PowerLeap CCP. I unchecked the L2 Cache force enable and checked the "start at startup" Now, when booting it seems the "unable to load ring0...." is not there, but the L2 Cache remains disabled, and we are loosing one of the Pentium III "goodies". So, I feel I have to stay wi...

The memories I got have a label: SAMSUNG 151 M464S3323CN0-L1L and are made by 8 small chips per side (that makes 16 small chips per 256Mb memory) branded: SAMSUNG 151 K4S280832C-NL1L I also disabled the "paging executive" and defined "LargesystemCache" at "1" following recommendation I read in anoth...

Yes, it works !!!!!!!!
Yes, it works !!!! :D :D I bought another 2x256Mb memories in eBay (UK), just got them and it works ! my 600E now has 512Mb RAM (question, why the base 32Mb seems to have dissapeared when I installed the new ones?) Finally I have my 600E upgraded (I'll not do the step.... hardware upgrade) and I onl...

600E 2645-550 DOES NOT accept 256 memories?
I tried twice, the eBay vendor is a very good one and exchage me the first ones they sent, but same result. Now they are refunding me the full selling price... He tells me that my 600E model 2645-550 DOES NOT accept 256Mb memories, only 128 ones as maximum. But I feel to have read some one with the ...

SqueakyPC, thanks for your post. Let me answer some of your comments: Are you sure that your MB even needs the 100mhz mod? Yes, I am. In fact before I did it, both cpuZ and Powerleap reported processor speed of 233MHZ (as before changing the processor), after I did the mod, they report 500MHz.... ;-...

Unstability....
SqueakyPC: I cannot help you on that. I didn't do the ref change, so I didn't cut the foil. Surely some other one of the very helpful people on thi sforum can help you. Now my problem: :( As I already said, I changed the processor to a 600MHz one and did the 100MHz hardware change (I need to do it t...

Re: MMC-2 fiders guide
After the Speed- Step and FSB mod (my 4AU) runs great at 652mhz w/108fsb.(thanks Sharedoc) The PowerLeap CPU Control Panel works perfectly. (thanks Holgi) The difficult part was cutting the foil. Is there a detailed description or photos of this process? and Is there a list of notebooks with MMC-2 ...

My 600E upgrade story goes on.....
Yes, sharedoc, the clock circuit was in "the other side" of the mainboard as you told me. I finally had today the time (and courage) enough for doing the hardware modification to my "very old" 600E to have it working at a clock speed of 100MHz and.... it works !!!! :) :D I thought for a while in doi...

big and hard work to be done
Sharedoc, thanks.... you gave me the answer I was afraid to get  I will follow the IBM support manual (that says to full remove also the display itself and the PCMCIA) in order to do the things in the most right way.... problem is that I'm not sure I'll be able to do it this week. I'll post in ...

Gilf, thanks for your answer. I also need some time to put my updates to the forum for the opposite reason, I need some one of my family helping me to "put my hands" in my old 600E... :) Or you may have a bad light tube -- LCD screens are lit by a long thin flourescent light tube (backlight) usually...

Trying to Follow with my upgrade
Well, today, having all the morning and a good light, I decided to follow with the upgrade. The two things I had planned to do were the hardware modification for having my very old motherboard giving the 100MHz and, having the laptop opened, also the FSB to 108MHz mod. I went till taken out the CPU ...

Re: My experiences upgrading 600E
KevP: Thanks for the info regarding the speedstep.... Anyway, this is the mod that I didn't plan to do. I'll have to do the "force 100MHz" and then, which is a bit difficult due to the pin 25 unsolding that has to be done, and, having the processor card out, I'll also do the FSB to 108MHz patch. Bot...

Fje 1. Bios Hex Edit:The value in byte 20 is recommended to be changed as follows: TPs with original value of 02 to 0A. TPs with original value of 00 to 08 although 0A has worked for some people. Your post says you changed it to 80 which may be causing a problem but it may be just a typo in your po...
