Error 2 file does not exist

This answer solved the same problem for me. I was used to Award flashers and Uniflash, where you first type the filename of the flasher and once that program is opened, you will be prompted for the bios filename to flash. Typing both in one DOS command as you indicated resulted in a successful flash...

Not an Award bios??

I was attempting to flash the current bios to a Chaintech 7NJL6 board (NF2 chipset socket A) prior to using it. Chaintech's website had the bios in the form of a .bin file with no information on the correct flasher to use, and none on their site to download. I tried flashing with Award 8.22a and was...

Problem solved!

Picked up a USB floppy drive at a yard sale. The HP bios (and a Compaq X1000 I have) will both boot from the USB floppy drive if I boot the notebook with the USB drive connected and enter the bios. Once the drive is connected before booting, a line will appear in the bios section for boot order list...

Thanks for the assistance. I already use 7zip. Should be able to use your instructions to alter the file to run from a hard drive.

I've noticed that flashdrive software also has the ability to make the stick bootable whilst formatting.. Perhaps boot off a bootable flash drive... If the bios file is a batch file that auto runs and is written to run from the A:> prompt, booting from a drive that is not A is unlikely to work. Tha...

This link is to the HP download page with two versions of the bios. This link is to the latest bios. This is a self-extracting compressed file that contains the system BIOS for the HP Omnibook 500/Pavilion XU100/ZU1000 Series notebook PC. Download file into an empty directory and from Windows execu...

My 390E took a 40G Samsung 5400rpm without a problem. I'd have to search notes to find the bios version; the notebook has since died. It didn't have the latest bios, though. I couldn't flash it because the floppy wasn't working.

Flashing without a floppy drive

Just bought an HP Omnibook 500 thin 'n light and I'd like to flash the bios. HP's bios appears to be one of those .exe files that writes to a floppy. This notebook has no onboard floppy or optical drive. It came with an outboard Targus cd drive that seems to run from a pc card scsi adapter (it's lab...

Hello, now I have bought two 128mb Hynix rams. I inserted them in my TP 390e. The problem is that they are read by BIOS as 64mb. CPU-Z repots that it goes for 128mb ram per module. But for the total of both it says 128mb. And also if I put only one module in it is still 64mb. Max for TP 390e is 256...

History lesson, but it might help someone else. The way to go about this is to find a bios chip from a dead board that matches the size and voltage of the chip on the board. (assuming it's socketed) Then do a hot swap. Loosen the bios chip, boot with the original chip, swap chips, flash the Gigabyte...

I've successfully flashed the IBM bios update, but when I try to flash the Intel bios, I get two beeps, no post display. Something is preventing the bios flash, probably something IBM has put in there. (I did have the jumper removed -- the "recovery" position.) Because the Intel bios update file is ...

IBM or Intel bios?

I have an IBM motherboard (300GL 6268-16U) for a socket 370 Cel/PIII. I have to flash the bios to support a Coppermine Cel 566 in any case. I'm considering flashing the Intel bios (CA810 board) rather than the IBM in the hope of accessing more options, particularly ram timings, than in the limited I...

It turns out the flasher is built into the bios. Interestingly the info wasn't in the pages for my 7120T but on a page for another model, the Nuovo, that I found while trying to identify mine.
I now have a newer Acer bios, with the Acer splash screen.

Uniflash for old Acer laptop?

I have a Unisys Aquanta EN/M, which I've identified as an Acer Travelmate 7120T, and found a bios update for it. Acer's exe file only creates a .bin file of 256Kb, and there's no flasher. The board has an Intel i430TX chipset. Should I be reasonably safe in making up a DOS flash bootdisk and using U...
