UNIFLASH
Liggy/Herrie over on the CDfreaks site have developed a new tool for flashing firmware to NEC and compatible DVD drives. Unfortunately, they've named the tool "UNIFLASH". The announcement is here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=105676&page=1&pp=25 I've posted a message in that thread poin...

There's a DIL32 --> PLCC32 PCB fret here: http:/ / se-ed. net / mpu51/eprom/pdf/LCC32-2.zip I had to make an adapter when I had a bad flash on a PLCC32 BIOS motherboard and only had DIL32 boards to hotflash with. The PCB fret linked above is a little large so you can use a stack of DIL32 sockets to ...

There is a schematic for a DIL32 —> PLCC32 adapter here:
http://se-ed.net/mpu51/eprom/eprom.html#SCHPCB
The PCB is fairly big so you need to raise it to avoid obstructions like capacitors, ISA/PCI slots etc. I used a stack of DIL32 sockets.

An MS-DOS window under WinME is fine for this purpose. (1) Under Windows, create a folder in the root (top) directory of your "C:" drive. Call it, say, "Update". Copy all the decompressed files to this folder. (2) Open an "MS-DOS" window. This will probably show a prompt something like: "C:\blah\bla...

All you did when you double-clicked on the download file is unpack the files needed to create the boot disk. Now: (1) Open a command prompt window (still under Windows -- in XP it is under Programs/Accessories/Command Prompt). (2) Navigate using the command prompt to the folder containing the unpack...

I was surprised by Rainbow's suggestion that the WinME version of IO.SYS contained a copy of HIMEM.SYS. This was because I had a WinME Startup Disk to hand and this contains HIMEM.SYS as a separate file -- I still don't understand why that should be. Anyway, I found an MS article which confirmed Rai...

Don't really understand why steved being told to go through the rigmarole of downloading a DOS boot image and then decompressing it to a floppy. Like Great said, generating a perfectly good DOS boot disk in XP is no more trouble than formatting a floppy. The XP boot disk IS a WinME boot disk. Better...

Just use the latest version but make sure you get the right one -- there are LAN and non-LAN versions. There is a detailed FAQ on flashing this board here:

I've got one of these boards and they are pretty good once set up. But they are very fussy about the memory and PSU used. Suggest you browse the threads here: http://forum.ocworkbench.com/ocwbcgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=forum&f=27 -- and here: http://www.amdmb.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?s=f4c4b2980de3dd5f66...
