Known issue with some Compaq laptops. I've had that very same issue with my Armada 110 and solved it by connecting an external keyboard, turned it on, hit F10 at POST, save&exit, shutdown, disconnect the external keyboard, and voilà... It fixed the problem. :P

Sounds like a corrupt BIOS :cry:

Have you tried disconnecting HD and CD except the FD to try a possible reflash if the latter is successfully accessed?

Be careful... full speed implies full power which your mobo's VRM may not be able to provide...

I have several Adaptec SCSI controller cards, one of which misflashed and I've spent a lot of time discovering how to revive it, but to no avail :?

The only solution could be to piggy-back flash or simply carefully replace the BIOS chip (not at all easy).

If your screen boots blank, then it isn't an OS problem... Try flashing to the latest BIOS with your previous processor.
