Well, I really see the word firmware in the title of this section (Video (VGA) and other BIOS/Firmware) so I don't see why not. Or are you implying it has something to do with legalities? Weird. I'm trying to get my friend's player to work with his original (c) DVDs and because of that Macrovision s...

Modifying firmware of a stand-alone DVD player
Hi, I'm curious if someone knows how to modify the firmware of a stand-alone DVD player. I recently gave one to a friend, but since he's using his old VCR to connect it to a TV without scart, he can't watch his original DVD's (because of the Macrovision protection). I know there are websites with 's...

http://www.winrar-rog.com/edownload/tools.html has a free unRAR util... and why not use RAR compression? WinRAR can do all sorts of (de)compression, including ZIP.
I never use ZIP anymore, it does not have any advantages over RAR (besides public acceptance maybe).

I think he means the link to BIOS Patcher ver. 4.00.rc.7.1
(http://www.rom.by/Award/patcher/bp-4rc71.rar)
That link is indeed dead...

Oops you're right Deniss, of course I meant QC616 (and yes, I noticed there's a QC617 but there's no changelog for it, so I doubt extra processor ID's are added but one never knows, that's true). I just checked the board, it's rev. 1.3 For the interested among us, the full ID string: 61-0729-001121-...

@ajzchips: sorry :) I don't have the Upgradeware yet, just trying to think ahead. So I don't get any messages, since I'm still running a Celeron Slot 1 300 @450 on that board. I have BIOS version Q616 and I forgot which PCB revision, will open the pc later. But I definately know it's not v1.4. @Deni...

Unfortunately, it's a FIC board. There is however an AWARD (beta) BIOS for revision 1.4 of this board, but I don't have that revision...

Hacking cd-rw firmware (Ricoh MP7083A) to recognize media?
Hi, I have a Ricoh cd-rw burner and its firmware is about 3 years old now. The problem is, I can only burn 48x and 52x blank cd-r's at 2x speed. The burner's maximum speed is 8x, so I would like to use that. Testing with Nero shows that 8x works fine, but when the actual burn starts, it gives me a m...
