Scandisk or defrag cannot complete if anything writes to the disk when they are trying to run. It sounds like something is running in the background on your system, unless you are in safe mode. As far as the missing files problem, I would strongly suggest that you first go with ajzchips advice, and ...

I would disconnect everything form the board except for video as a means of trying to track it down. Pull all cards but VGA, completely disco all hard drives, floppy, CDROMs (power cables, too). Then, if it still freezes, you have at least (more or less) eliminated the other hardware as the culprit....

Just a stab here, but, have you tried booting to a win 98 floppy and running fdisk? If you get the option to "Change current fixed disk drive" in FDISK (on the first menu), then your PC is seeing more than one physical hard drive. Also, what OS are you running? Thanks much.

New problem now, though. The BIN file from ECS for K7VZA rev 1 and rev 3 both tell me the part number doesnt match the file. Would you suggest that I try bn files from AMptron or PC Chips?

Board Rev# is my issue...

Hi - I have what I am pretty sure is an ECS-K7VZA board, and I am trying to update the Bios. The issues here are: 1 - I don't know what rev the board is, the ECS site has 2 diff bios files for the "1.0" rev, and the "3.0" rev. 2 - The manuals for both the revs indicate that there are 3 DIMM slots on...
