Thanks Edwin...
Even more info... For me, having just moved from Abit LX6C/o'clocked PII-233 to Asus P3B-F/Celeron 1GHz, it's back to learning again to see what I can do to get the best out of what what I've got. Had to resort to 2x128Mb PC133 chips so o'clocking the FSB is still on. I reckon the 256Mb stick I was ...

RAM FAQ
Genius - all the answers I needed! The problem was one of those classic IT user vs. IT support ones - "..but I've done what you said and it still doesn't work...." Seriously, without understanding the finer points of memory module i'd of either been going backwards and forwards between my machine an...

RE: Memory can come in many configurations...
Hi,
Thanks for that info. This makes a little sense to me (my memory stick currently sitting 150km away) in that I'm sure it doesn't have 16 (2x8) chips on it. Would that be right then....?
Presumably then this means I could even have problems with 128Mb modules too?
Cheers,
Steven

Asus P3B-F 256Mb SDRAM woe - dble-sided, but still sees 128
Hi all, Upgrading the memory in my Asus P3B-F (i440BX) m'board, and I'm having problems. 1. I tried a 256Mb PC133 module, single sided, which (now having read the posts here, obviously) didn't work. (I understand that PC133 will work fine, even though the - now aging - manual states PC 100..?) 2. I ...

APM setting in BIOS reset
Got it sussed!
The BIOS flash reset the APM to 'disabled' in the BIOS. Win XP then detetcted no APM available.
Solution: Enable APM in BIOS, then re-enable in XP; all's back to normal.
Cheers,
Steven.

Power off...
Hi NickS, No - not yet, since I never had to before. However, the manual says this about this action; "Power Button Override: Support ACPI Power Button Over-ride. The user presses the power button for more then four seconds while the system is in the working state, then the system will transition to...

Rainbow-patched Abit LX-6C i440LX chipset (2A69JA1AC-7T)
Hi, I flashed my BIOS for this board with Rainbow's patch (from the tested patches link). I now want to change my slot 1 Celeron-300MHz to a Celeron 566 on a slotket (which a friend gave me gratis). From cold-boot, the BIOS sees a Celeron-556MHz (yes, 556), but then refers me to CPU setup in the BIO...

Abit LX-6C (i440LX chipset - 2A69JA1AC-7T): Rainbow's patch
Hello again, Having successfully flashed Rainbow's patch for my Abit LX6C m'board, I have encountered a new issue, which I'm sure is easily resolved, but the solution for which is not immediately obvious to me: Previously, on shutting down Win XP, my machine would automatically power off. Now, i'm l...

Thanks. I understand also that the Abit board I have used only to be capable of accepting a PII-300. Since applying Rainbow's patch, the BIOS now sees a PIII-556 I have lying around on auto-detect, but then sends me to the CPU SoftMenu to configure the setup correctly. Alas, no amount of fiddling wi...

:D Sunday, 19:50 - 8 hrs since I bit the bullet and went for it! Thanks NickS - I used Rainbow's LX6C patch, the BIOS is upgraded, and my new 40Gb Samsung is recognised. What took me so long is that I don't have any cloning software, so had o reinstall Win XP et al - anyways, thanks to all for givin...

Voila - the complete string
Hi again, BIOS ID string: 02/04/98-i440LX-W977TF-2A69JA1AC-7T BOARD BIOS version: GREEN/AGP/PCI/ISA SYSTEM Now, will this '-7T' version work with HD > 10Gb (or is the cut-off 15.2Gb?), or will I need Rainbow's patch? Incidentally, I followed Wim's link to the site with all the Award BIOS updates (aw...
