Thanks Soupy, I tried your suggestion but I still have the same problem. Actually, I've discovered that clearing the event log has no effect on the problem. Even without clearing the event log I still boot up OK about 2/3rds of the time. Now I'm interested in trying to tweak the BIOS to disable CPU ...

I have a Dell Dimension 8250, P4 3.06GHz, with a Phoenix BIOS, version A04. I replaced the stock CPU fan with a Zalman fan to get rid of the terrible noise. It worked, but the computer boots with a "Previous CPU fan failure" error message about every third time I start it up. I have to keep clearing ...
