Re: Flash rom protected

I recently updated the bios to F4 version using the @BIOS tool provided in the GigaByte site. This update run whitout problems, no error, in the post the info was ok and even the Q-flas utility now appears. The problem is, after that update, in the post before the first XP graphic screen I receive ...

we want to do some background checks before answering "we don't know". It is not that we don't care. Sometimes you have to wait for an answer. It's all volunteers here, we don't get paid to do this. Fair enough, Edwin. It's just, sometimes you may have to wait for a /long/ time : I posted the same ...

solved

For the record I found whatever bits I needed by studying the C-language source of the SiS driver for the Linux kernel :=)

What astounds me is why nobody on this board cared to reply my query in the first place. I guess this was not the right place for a serious question too.

text modes on the SiS

Have a SiS 741 (6330 integrated video) . The BIOS does not provide for more than 80 column wide text modes :=( Is there a solution, such as BIOS upgrade (dubious) or a DOS TSR program? Could someone provide documentation for programming and selecting the SiS VClocks ? Desperate - Please help ! -- Cz...

I doubt that anyone can give you a definitive answer about which bytes of CMOS are free in a given version of the BIOS for a given motherboard, unless they have already done it for your motherboard and version of BIOS. They will not know that unless you post the BIOS ID and OEM message, hence "4.50...

NickS, w/ all due respect, your link is more "generic" than my question! I do know what a "typical" CMOS layout is like, thank you anyway. If Award 4.50G - the infamous 1994 BIOS with the Y2k problem, which reverts to year 1994 at each boot when the century byte is 20 - is too generic, then what mor...

Awd 4.50G : need a free CMOS RAM byte. Is 34h OK?

I have to put back this old 486 based MoBo into service, Award 4.50G BIOS. Quick version : can I safely use "CMOS" memory byte #34H for my whatever purposes ? (I Need one free byte, if I'm wrong and 34H isn't free, then advise one). Additionnal : Do you know where I could find complete spec for CMOS...

AMI BIOS interfaces docs

Fellows, is there an open accessible tech doc for AMI BIOS interfaces (mostly interrupts, and CMOS and standard & extended BIOS data areas layout) ? Please don't tell me to look up R.Brown's (excellent) interrupt list, or any such general guide, I really mean - current AMI BIOS specific info... TIA ...

video modes tweaking for SiS (and other) chipsets ?

Hello BIOS folk, is there a program around for "tweaking" video modes on the integrated SiS chipsets ? I like working in *text* modes with *more* columns (say, 132 c.) -unfortunately, standard video BIOS nowadays doesn't care to setup even one "wide text" mode, maybe the programmers are lazy or they...

Undocumented freq/divisor on the IcW W153-F PLL chip

I have an IcWorks (now Cypress) W153F clock gen on one mobo. There are two clock settings left undefined in the PDF docs I got for this circuit ( in fact for the W153B) - experimentally I found one is (FSB=) 124 MHz, the other one might be 133 ? Anyways, I lack the lab and HW for making frequency me...

ACER V75M Mobo (for IBM Aptiva) : looking for BIOS info

Hi ! New to this board, please redirect my question to the appropriate forum if this is not it ! Got an IBM Aptiva 2170 which uses an ACER "V75M" mobo, (SiS 530 chipset, W153F clock generator ...) I am seeking to mod my BIOS in different directions, including adding boot from a USB keydisk. Can some...
