Look carefully at that drive's jumpers, make sure the one that caps it at 32GB is not set. I think you might have looked at the jumpers area the wrong way and set the 32GB cap jumper instead of the Master jumper.

Should I assume that nobody around here does BIOS patches anymore? If I could afford to buy all kind of software that I only need once and a customized BIOS, I would definitely buy myself a new mobo instead. Unfortunately, I have to rely on freeware/open-source and stick to the hardware I got ...

Is there a clean solution not involving shareware tools?

In the BIOS, edwin; it's all about the BIOS. I could deal with the software, but I need to have the BIOS sharp on the real drive size.
Besides, as you can see in my post above, I'm gonna stay with Win98SE as my OS of choice, although I may play with others, including Knoppix and K/Ubuntu.

Sorry for reopening the topic, but I have a similar board too (ACorp 5TX29 with the string 06/16/1998-i430TX-ALi513-2A59IFF99C-00 ) and I would need a fixed BIOS.
POST states FOR 5TX29 PCI/ISA MODE VER:1.2 .

Well, in the end, that LBA code is in fact nothing else but part of the capacity formula (Cylinders x Heads x Sectors) which -as you said- multiplied by 512 bytes, equals the HDD real capacity. I just wonder why they wrote there 16383 cylinders, when they're 29065? They should have specified that ...
