OK, did that. No visible change, except for throwing it back from ATA66 to ATA33 when set to AUTO. Settings: IDE Primary Master: MANUAL Access Mode: • AUTO: 65535, 16, 255 (136GB) not tweakable • LARGE: 4095, 240, 255 (128GB) not tweakable • LBA: 16643, 255, 63 (136GB) not tweakable • CHS: 65535, 16...

OK, so I still didn't get a clear answer: is there anybody able and willing to patch that BIOS or not? [EDIT] I didn't get to read the previous post, because for some reason, I couldn't access the site for some time right during and after posting. Devil's hand... [/EDIT] That HDD is brand new, I did...

Should I assume that nobody around here does BIOS patches anymore? If I could afford to buy all kind of software that I only need once and a customized BIOS, I would definitely buy myself a new mobo instead. Unfortunately, I have to rely on freeware/open-source and stick to the hardware I got. [EDIT...

In the BIOS, edwin; it's all about the BIOS. I could deal with the software, but I need to have the BIOS sharp on the real drive size. Besides, as you can see in my post above, I'm gonna stay with Win98SE as my OS of choice, although I may play with others, including Knoppix and K/Ubuntu. Any idea o...

137GB barrier has been broken!!!
Hello everybody! I came back after quite a long time, for two reasons: • To announce the creation and release of 48bit LBA drivers for older OSes • To ask for your precious help in making my mobo "see" the brand new 160GB Barracuda (the reason for posting in this thread) To the first subject, here's...

New request
Hi all! Sorry for reopening the topic, but I have a similar board too (ACorp 5TX29 with the string 06/16/1998-i430TX-ALi513-2A59IFF99C-00 ) and I would need a fixed BIOS. POST states FOR 5TX29 PCI/ISA MODE VER:1.2 . The board has a few issues and I was wondering if a BIOS update/patch could fix them...

There isn't too much to explain. I put the HDD on a newer machine that could see it correctly (AWARD BIOS v6.0 or equivalent) and I used fdisk (from a Win98 boot disk) to partition it. I made 3 partitions, because that's how I was used to have the HDD before. You can make only 2 partitions if you wa...

Well, unfortunately I couldn't make the Biostar "see" the HDD; so I went back to the UT-586VA one, which initially read the parameters correctly. I installed the HDD on that board and it works for now. The only thing is that I had it partitioned on another system, because fdisk would still see only ...

Well, in the end, that LBA code is in fact nothing else but part of the capacity formula (Cylinders x Heads x Sectors) which -as you said- multiplied by 512 bytes, equals the HDD real capacity. I just wonder why they wrote there 16383 cylinders, when they're 29065? They should have specified that th...

Well, if you'll be able to fix that code for me, I'll advertise you wherever I go as the best BIOS modder of all times. But if you fail and my board dies, I'll just commit suicide... Now, jokes apart, I'm really fond of that board, no matter how old it is, and I wish it could last a lifetime. And gi...

That's not a mistery only for you. :) I searched for something related to this motherboard all over the Internet and I couldn't find the slightest trace of a manufacturer. Someone on another forum told me he's been dealing with that manufacturer string before (he's been working with AWARD for a whil...
