So my speed is not 6* 66 mhz (which would be 396 ). But it's close to 500 mhz, which is the speed I think all speedsteps work unless you make the speedstep mod on the MB. Alin The thing is, though, that the output of your /proc/cpuinfo doesn't show Speedstep as a supported feature. If the processor...

I don't think I stated this expliciitly in earlier posts but all my RAM is 100MHz. So I have a CPU and RAM that are both rated for 100MHz operation, yet it appears that the FSB is runing at 66MHz. Hmm.... Did you disabled the onboard 32 mb? I think that's 66 mhz. But my question is probably beside ...

You kind of lost me here (sorry, my hex math is not that good). So, I'm replacing only one value. It's now 0x20 (and it was supposed to be 0x02) . I'm replacing it by 0x0A. IS that right? Sorry for being so picky here... Alin No, you don't want to replace 0x20 with 0x0A. The goal is to keep the cha...

Ok, hmm. Its seems it's a IBM bios thing: http://mailman.linux-thinkpad.org/pipermail/linux-thinkpad/2000-September/003055.html However, I need to see what's happening when I boot on AC power, I htink I consistenly boot on battery. Swsnyder, can you check your /proc/cpuinfo on both battery and AC p...

[ The standard advice here is to change values from 0x02 to 0x0A at location 0x20. Well, my original value at that location was 0x20, not 0x02. After clearing CMOS a few time in the course of updating my CPU, the value at that same location was 0x00. Hmm... I took a chance and set bit 3 anyway, lea...

PIII-modules select 100MHz FSB automatically. What kind of memory you have? Actually, I don't believe that is a universally true statement. I replaced my P2/300/66MHz with a P3/500/100MHz, disabled the onboard RAM and the L2 cache. The newer CPU seems to be running at 66MHz. My first thought, of co...

Hey swssnyder, I have the same problem here, one of the two thinkpads 600e i'm trying to upgrade is an "old" model, a 55U, with 46H bios. Did you manage to find the corect bit in the bios that needs to be changed? Despite the fact the the original value at 0x20 was not the same as that reported by ...

So... how does one get past this error?

Thanks.
Never mind. Found it.

I've got the new P3/500 installed in my 600E-57U and, as expected, I'm getting the 127 cache errors on start up. I infer from previous comments that it is possible to get past this error with a few keystrokes. I'm willing to put up with this inconvenience while determining the real fix. So... how do...

OK, I'm in the process of upgrading the CPU on my 600E. I'm concerned, though, that I have the wrong value in my BIOS at offset 0x20. I'm using the latest BIOS fo my 600E-57U, version IHET47WW, available at http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/license.do?filename=mobiles/spsdih47.exe. I previous...

Guide to disassembling my TP 600E?

Hello. Inspired by the discussion here, I've decided to upgrade the processor of my ThinkPad 600E 2645-57U. I'm going to replace the P2/300 with a P3/500. I've opened a number of notebook computers and found them to be inevitably byzantine in their design. I'd just as soon avoid the learn-by-breakin...
