Going through the motions with the second mobo is risky, an identical flasher-crash could occur. Also, the flasher-crash occurred before reporting the type of bios chip. Hmm, are you sure what you are doing when you flash a bios? If you use the flasher without any commandline parameters you will ge...

the drive indeed works with xp - the only thing is that the bios sees it as a 137.5 gig drive - but that is no problem as i will not try to boot from it anyway

Thanks for the help :)

maximum hard drive supported

Hi, i am about to by a new hd for my pc & was wondering what would work with my rather old mobo. It is a msi k7 pro - latest bios. On the msi site they talk about support for 65gig hd, i was however planning to get a 250 gig one.(http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/bios/bos/spt_bos_detail.php?UID=...

thx for the answer i decided to look at the forums from msi (should have done this sooner - was just googling with no luck) and indeed: Irongate chipset has same problem (worse actually cause it will fail to boot) as intel bx chipset with the newer sdram types. will just have to look for some old me...

irongate & 256 mb mem modules

Hi, can anyone if tell me if the limitations for 256meg modules on older (like bx-chipsetç mobos) would also apply to a irongate(amd751 - amd756) chipset mobo? I have tried a 256 meg module on my mobo (ms 6195 - latest bios) and the computer will hang during the ram check - it's a mem module that wi...

when trying to flash the mobo the flash program (awdflash, uniflash) normally reports waht type type of chip is in there.

so if you go through the motions with the second mobo without actually flashing, your answer should be there

memory types

hi, i have a quick question about different sdram modules. I have heard of different chips/stick and was wondering what the easiest way would be to find this out. I have several diagnostic programs but cant find the actual nr of chips in any of them. Astra32 seems to give the most info so any though...

he probably meant you had to get into the bios and change the bootorder depending on the comp you need to hit a key at startup to enter the bios (most common is the del key) and look for the bootorder sequence - set it so that the cdrom is first after this you can boot from a (genuine :) )xp cd & in...

if you can boot from it, i don't see what would be the problam

just put the same files on it as you would on a floppy - recovering from a bad flash won't be that easy though and keeping a copy of your old bios won't work on a cd of course

the problem travels with the hard drive Well, i guess the logical next step would be to try another hd (after clearing cmos - making sure the virus isn't also there). You did check the cmos battery. And you are sure that the current bios is the 1 for your motherboard (since you swapped mobo's alrea...
