ok, well i've compiled the grub from here http://kihwal.fayoly.net/600e/grub.html and installed it and rebooted but i am still not sure the L2 cache has been re-enabled. things still seem pretty slow, i dont know how to know for sure if its on. -snip- Do "cat /proc/cpuinfo" to see whether the l2 ca...

memory modules for TP600E
Lazerman, i think that the 600E have one module solder on the motherboard, and one slot free. you can install max 256MB on each slot, but the soldered module is often 128MB, so you can get 384MB of memory, if you are practice of soldering you can put 512MB... --snip-- TP600E has two available 144pi...

DeepSleep and enable L2cache in GRUB!
Hi, That's right. I put the code in GRUB. The speedstep mod and the level 2 cache can be enabled before booting an operating system. Being a Linux user, I have not been satisfied with the existing solutions to enable the speedstep mod. The kernel module by wmarcusm is great but has one problem. Sinc...

Is it possible?
Is it possible to switch from the high speed to the low speed with your mod? As you know, wmarcusm's software only does low->high. Is it a software limitation or hardware one? If there is a way to do it in software, I will be very much interested in making a linux driver for it. Unfortunately I do n...

P-III upgrade for TP600E
I realised that there is an inconsistency between what Sharedoc suggests for the TP 600E upgrade and the picture I’ve found in this thread. I wonder if I soldered the 2k2 resistor to the wrong end. In Sharedoc’s drawing it seems to be C13, but according to the picture (photo) I’ve found in the foru...

Re: Update of DeepSleep utility
I've updated the deepsleep utility page http://home.pacbell.net/wmarcusm/deepsleep/ with version 1.4 and added a version for the Linux 2.6 kernel. This version fixes a bug in the previous versions that prevented the utility from working with most non Thinkpad laptops. I've tested it against my TP60...

To my understanding there are at least two newest but different bios versions out for different serial numbers, so I don't think there is full interchangeability of bios-EEPROMs. My 600E 2645-4A0 has bios-EEPROM on the lower side of the motherboard and it has bios version INET36. I see a Intel flas...

It worked!
Now my TP is running at 500MHz! I lifted the pin 25 off the PCB and attached an 1K SMD register I got from an old broken sound card. I connected the other end of the register to the pin 48 using a short wire. I bypassed error 127 and tried to boot the system only to see the BSOD. It went away after ...

I believe that if all the pins have the same function, there would be no problem.. What do you think sharedoc? BTW I got another mobo for my 600E, and true enaugh, it was a later version than the one I modded, the P3 600mhz got in right away.. But a problem with the cache memory of course.. But tha...

Re: TP600e 2645-5xU FSB mod
FYI. I have a TP 2645-55U. I noticed after a PIII-650 (MMC2) upgrade that the fsb was running at 66mhz. I cut pin 25 on the sg577 clock generator which is tied low on this motherboard and then tied pin 25 to vddref - pin 48 with a 1k resistor (I could not locate the pull-down resistor after searchi...
