No need for extra sensors. There is an ACPI thermal diode on the CPU die that can measure the temp. Just download and install Mobilemeter, the programmer has already written code for the diode so you can use it.

I use mobile meter to measure temps. Im using a 600e fan and the heatsink I modified to do the cooling. Works great... temps never go above 60* C and I don't have the 192 boot error anymore and the ACPI in the BIOS handles the 600E fan as normal. Great setup! I want to push it alittle more though no...

Williham,

I used to have a 770ED and they are pains to take apart. Search the IBM website for the hardware maintance manual for the 770 series it will not only help you find thoughs last screws but will aid you in putting it back together.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am not understanding your figure though. Am I using the fan senser input on the moterboard for the gate of the transitor?

So +5 comes from USB and I am using the fan sensor and the ground from the fan plug?

Yea I really don't think that you will need to use the dremel to modify the heatsink at all. With the n600c it looks like all you have to do is remove the radiator from the sadle after you disassemble it.

search ebay for "evo heatsink" I used the one from the n610c but the n600c is similar and might actaully be a better choice because all you have to do is remove the bottom of the radiator from the fan assembly and in that case doesn't require any dremel. http://carthaguo.com/ebay/2005/12/p0068/2.JPG

Also I just did an experiment, the fan seen to the left of the first photo was placed inside the ca...

squink, Modification...the only part you use from the original heatsink are the fan, radiator, dual heatpipes, and the mounting pad. The hardest part was removing the aluminum pad under the radiator but in hindsight I think I should have just left it on and removed the USB bung from the chassis. Wit...

yea I thought about doing that and that was my plan but the problem is that I can not think of a reasonable way of cutting the fan housing. Any debris will enter the fan unit and obstruct motion. It is not possible in my opinion to remove the fan without breaking it because it is built into the alum...
