Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

AWUSH036H has RTL8187 chip and Ubuntu support for RTL8180 and RTL8185 has been broken in recent Ubuntu versions. There is fix that I have used for 8180 and 8187, it involves changing some setting in source driver and then compiling it. There was even python script that does this all but I'm not sure...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

this: http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-c ... stick.html
describes how to flash from usb stick. Find the ibm bios and follow instructions.

You can't update bios from linux but I think you knew that already.

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

Some of you may be interested/amused about this. :o Android x86 (at least version 2.2) live cd boots into Android in Thinkpad 600E. No settings change needed. My wlan card is not supported, I'm unsure about audio, but those are settings that can be fixed by compiling and adding missing parts? Androi...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

My 600E is running ubuntu 9.10 and I was able to run "make" command for the deepsleep 1.5 with following KSOURCE on Makefile: # Makefile for 2.6 based Linux Kernel # You will need to change KSOURCE to point to your kernel # source tree. MODULE_NAME = l2cache PWD = $(shell pwd) #KSOURCE = /usr/src/li...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

I don't use deepsleep on my Ubuntu 600E. It has 850MhzPIII running at 700Mhz and for L2 cache activation I use pIIIcache2.6.tar.gz. But looking this deepsleep utility it seems that you have to edit the KSOURCE at MAKEFILE file? Set the address so that it points to your newest kernel version. On my T...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

Answering my own question. I was able to copy the needed files from old HD and I'm now running Ubuntu 9.10 with L2 cache. :D Ubuntu 9.10 is quite nice as it fairly light and starts faster than older linux distros. Everything seems to work without any adjustments. Only thing I need to check is how ma...

Re: IBM Thinkpad 600E bios mod for processor update

Does anybody have working link to: pIIIcache2.6.tar.gz ?
I can only find the kernel 2.4.x version and but that does not work with Ubuntu 9.10 which I'm running.
My old hd was corrupted and I'm not sure if have stored the file else where.

Othervice this old laptop still works great :(

One thing you should consider:

If you have added any memory to your laptop, that might explain your symptoms. Sometimes the memory seems to work but when you try to install windows or linux the problems starts.

that he had been able to write 390X bios into a 390E (after a mod)
Do we know how much difference there is between 600E and 600X?
Maybe someone with an extra 600E motherbord could try the 600X BIOS?

I don't know - just hoping :?

My blue screen problems with PowerLeap ended when I disabled the internal 32MB memory.
