on the schematic the memory slots are marked as simm
this means i have to use one-sided memory modules, right?

thanks for the reactions - now I know a bit more I haven't got the latest bios - it's listed at kariachi's but i can't download it? Can't find it at chaintech either :cry: And even if i was to plug in a k6-2 400 i could run it at 225 max, since that's the best the mobo will do (3x75) So i think i'll...

Seems like a broken harddisk to me - disconnect it and try to boot from diskette or CD (should work) , then install XP on another harddisk. If your harddisk is a Maxtor, they've got good diagnostic software, but to me it seems to be a mechanical failure (happened to me once too). Hope this helps :wi...
