I'm not going to go into detailed prcoesses for troubleshooting, but what you can do is check the CPU and feel if it's getting hot. If it's not, then the CPU is not intializing.. and it's not even getting to the POST. ..and it may not be getting ANY voltage. Usually, when an overcurrent or a short c...

www.badflash.com offers PLCC bios replacement chips.

Order (if possible) a winbond 2mbit 5v chip you may need to send them the bios image.

I'm not so sure this is a BIOS issue. Obviously something fried when the spark occured. If the Laptop turns on and the hard drive spins, then the system is waking up but probably is not completing the POST process. I know that on the Fxxx series vaios the BIOS EEPROM is removable, but I have not found another series that is removable.

I may be wrong.. but from the list of available replacement parts that I have, the BIOS chip is not an available option (as it is for the Fxxx)

Call Sony.

This laptop is not very old, if it is still under warranty call Sony and tell them it did not want to turn on one day.

Otherwise you'll have an expensive paperweight at your disposal. You'll need high tech equipment to remove and re-program the BIOS.

Just an update, also, take a look on the top of the PCB, it may have an area for a PLCC type ROM, I just got done working with a dead BIOS on a 1600 The PCB came orgininally with a TSOP on the bottom of the board, the bootblock was useless, removed the TSOP ROM, installed a 2mbit 5v PLCC on the top ...

We're in western NY, pay for postage to and from here and we'll do it. Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes.
