For the fact that your laptop was able to execute some POST routines, I'm quite sure the hotflash you did was successful (esp. when Uniflash did not prompt you with error messages during the hotflash), and it doesn't matter if the chipsets are different.

Try AUTO/AUTO settings for your Primary Master in CMOS Setup. If no joy, try AUTO/LBA. If still no joy, try USER and enter the CHS parameters for that HD. If your CMOS Setup has an IDE AUTO-DETECTION feature, try it. If still no joy, feel your HD with your hands when you power up your PC. If you don...

Uniflash already has this write/verify feature. I wonder if it's possible to add a separate write/verify module that allows for 1-10 passes of write/verify test for all addresses of the Flash ROM. I believe that increasing the number of passes would expose the unreliable addresses, much like how dee...

This situation is not uncommon to the old motherboards I have repaired. First, run Memtest86+ to determine if you have a defect-free RAM. Just Google to find it on the web. This is freely downloadable. This has been my most reliable way of troubleshooting RAM, and it didn't fail me so far. Second, r...

Write/Verify a Flash ROM

Hi, I've encountered several bios chips which could be flashed successfully with Uniflash and passing the Data Verification step. But these chips seems very unreliable in actual use, and I need to reflash time and again to enable the system to boot. Is there a utility that could do a reliable write/...

The last blue lines you saw when you flashed your bios indicated that you did not include bootblock in the flashing process. It seems that your newly flashed bios image is incompatible with your bootblock. This shouldn't have been a problem had you included bootblock in the flashing process. Anyway,...

This chip may have a damaged ID stamp, but I haven't tried it on other mobos.

Would be wanting to try -FORCE switch, but what's parameters (xxxx) to specify for this chip?

No jumper/BIOS option to disable write protection. This is not an issue because I was able to hotflash several flash ROMs on this board with Uniflash.

Grab a voltmeter and measure the DC voltage from ground to the DRAIN terminal of the MOSFET which supplies power to the processor. It should read between 1.65V to 2.2V depending on your processor. If no reading at all, then the VRM (voltage regulator module) has died and there's no way your processo...

Unknown Flash

Hi there!

SST 39SF020 is reported as unknown flash by Uniflash using VIA Apollo 133 Pro chipset on a 9VAAV mobo by Fast Fame Int'l.

Is it a supported Flash ROM?

Then try reflashing your BIOS with the correct file by doing the shorting trick. This bypasses the POST code which seems corrupted.

This shorting trick activates Bootblock, and this is posted under IN-DEPTH HIGH-TECH BIOS SECTION.

Your BIOS should be fine because POST was run.

Seems to be a conflict with CMOS settings. Try entering BIOS setup when you see the memory test and set settings to standard defaults.

Or you can try clearing CMOS by moving the CMOS jumper to CLEAR positon while power is off.

Nothing to do with BIOS as there was no flashing involved.

Overclocking usually results in premature failure of capacitors at the VRM module, thus cutting off Vcore and rendering the processor lifeless.

I have repaired many boards having this kind of problem.

You need to enable ACPI in BIOS to be able to install XP.
