Replaced the 74HCT574 chip of my c't-flasher with a 74HC574 one. Result: c't-flasher is not recognized by the software anymore. AFAIK 74HCT has TTL switching levels but 74HC has half supply switching. Of course there is always a possibility that the 74HC chip is bad (unfortunately no possibility to ...

UniFlash since v1.32 supports this card too (run uniflash -ctflash) BIG BIG thanks for the c't flasher support, Rainbow :D (I finally had time today to test it...) The orginal c't flasher software is getting outdated slowly and the Linux software was always a bit odd for me (although it worked fine.

When you talk about double sided, do you mean that IC´s are on both sides?? Yes, that's what I meant (I know that's actually not correct but most of the people understand it that way). There are only IC´s on one side. Then upgrading BIOS won't help. You need a 256MB stick that has IC's on both side...

Is it a single-sided or a double sided memory stick?

I had problems with 2D (HDD auto detection crashed when UDMA support was enabled; IIRC 3.2GB Quantum Fireball and 41GB IBM Deathstar was used for testing).
Didn't find the 2C anywhere so I used a patched version of 2B:

A good (IMHO) FAQ concerning RAM support of i440BX (unfortunately already gone from its original location; still available from Google cache):

No soldering this time...
The owner of the board managed to swap the memory to a DIMM with 128 Mbit chips (which works just fine).

No white sticker on the BIOS chip? Chaintech boards used to have the model name written on that sticker (at least all the boards that I have seen) .
