Try removing all the drives, attach an external PC monitor to the laptop and see if that does anything. If that don't work, disassemble the laptop down to the mainboard, apply power and see if you get a POST on the external PC monitor. Setup that resides on the hard drive can be accessed by hitting the "Function" and "Escape" keys, or at a command C: prompt typing: Set_up then hit enter.

To access the Rom based setup, hit the keys: CTRL - ALT - ESC

Why are you jumping to the conclusion that it's a BIOS issue? Did you try to run these games in safeMode? Rule out the possibility of a software issue rarther than a hardware issue. Hey Max, unfortunatly.. as you probably already know, Compaq does not put the whole "setup" software in the BIOS EEPRom. Most of the setup is located on the hard disk. But, your issue lies within the ROM and the initilzation of the system. Unfortunatly, the BIOS software updates that compaq releases...
