Re: Top Hat Flash

I couldn't sacrifice one machine to become a brick. Ah. With "brick" I meant you have to resort to either desoldering or top hat flash to recover. I've yet to see a machine which was permanently bricked from such experimentation. The top hat flash method sound interesting though. Is there some deta...

I was able to flash the modified ROM using "Rompaq BIOS Update Utility, Rompaq.exe". New WLAN card was inserted, Windows booted up, everything worked fine. After two days I have removed battery and unplugged AC adapter from laptop, so laptop had no electricity. And after putting back the same batte...

Hi, are you talking about coreboot flashrom? Yes. I can't download it anywhere! Google "flashrom", first hit. That page has a "Download" section. Besides I do not understand a lot of Linux... Now that makes using the flashrom utility difficult (unless you know BSD or OSX or Solaris better). I think...

Re: A78AX-S - need multiple floppies

The problem is that the BIOS only has an option to recognize a single floppy. Is it possible to modify the BIOS to allow 2 floppy drives? You can often enable the second floppy drive after the OS has booted (check out superiotool), but I'm not 100% sure about resource allocation. Floppy is so ancie...

Would you have any DOS tools to do two things: 1/ Write bytes to the FULL 32-bit address space 2/ allow writing the pci-e extended configuration space You'd need a tool which uses protected mode under DOS. Even if you get pciutils compiled under DOS with extended PCIe config space support, you'll s...

Re: HTX card from Port mapped to memory mapped.

I working at a investigation department at a Spanish university they are working with a new kind of NIC that connects directly to the HTX slot on their Supermicro mobo (H8QME-2+). Unfortunately, for the test they want to do, the card has to be memory mapped but right now the BIOS (AMI) set the card...

There is no DOS tool that I've been able to find to change the extended pci config registers prior to boot which may give a more positive result here. So another way would be to write a grub2 module as instructed by Uncle Joe [...] to change both PCI bridge memory ranges and PCI configuration regis...

Re: Asus M2V-MX SE

Impressive knowledge! Hats off. Thanks! I have been doing x86 firmware development for the last few years and it's my goal to help others understand the environment firmware runs in and what firmware can do. Asus M2V-MX SE and I found the image somewhere at Coreboot's site. Probably here: http://ww...

Flashing VGA BIOS under Linux

Hi, is there any utility which can reflash ATI or Nvidia graphics card BIOS under Linux? I know of ATIFLASH and NVFLASH under DOS, but I haven't seen anything for Linux (and no, DOS boot disks with ATIFLASH or NVFLASH don't count). Any hints are appreciated. (The forum search and Google didn't turn ...

Warning: This thread uses kb vs. kB incorrectly in some places. AFAICS you have a 4 Mbit (512 kByte) chip you want to flash in a board that only has address lines A0-A17 wired to the socket, but your flash chip needs A0-A18. Looking at the SST39SF040 reveals that A18 is pin 1 for the PLCC32 and DIP3...

While looking for something entirely else for my motherboard at work, I stumbled onto a Coreboot BIOS image for exactly that motherboard. What are the chances for that? Ready-made coreboot images are rare because everyone wants different features. Where did you find that image and what's the exact ...
