Bios chip voltage info

I had some bios chip voltage info on a now-dead computer. Have a conventional rectangular bios chip on an FIC PN-6010 board which needs jumper settings for bios voltage and size. Top number on the chip is PH29EE010. The "29" indicates...5V or 12V?

Thanks, Edwin. I really don't care about the IBM logo. I'm trying to either get a half-decent bios like Award or AMI into this board to have it recognize my k6II 500 without having to press a key in the middle of the boot and to get some control of the memory timings -- a very long shot for a board ...

Thanks, Rainbow, and especially for the work you've done in maintaining and enhancing Uniflash. Haven't used it yet, but it appears to be a great tool for someone like me who fools around with older boards.

Thanks, ajz. I think before I go that route I'll try a non-Acer bios if I can scare up a spare bios chip, and find a similar board's bios.

Thanks ajzchips. Any chance that an equivalent exists for AMD cpus -- for the K6 II 500 in an Acer V70MA board, for example. This board has the same problem.

Will Uniflash let me copy the bootblock from one bios chip so that I could hot swap and flash it and a new bios to another chip?

Acer/IBM bios workaround

Have an Acer M70VA board with an IBM bios (K6II, ALi chipset.) The IBM bios upgrade is an executable file that builds a flash diskette. I wanted to flash the board with an Acer bios that appeared to be much later. I was not able to do it with the Acer flasher and bios, or the IBM diskette with the A...

Cpu steppings in bios

I have an Acer V66XA board with an Acer/IBM bios. This is a PII i440BX board that Acer and IBM sold only with PII 350/400/450 cpus. Acer put no other steppings into the initial part of the bios. The board will boot, then stop when it sees a different PII cpu, until you press <enter> to continue. It ...

Flash the boot-block by switching flashers?

If I wanted to flash the boot block as well as the rest of the bios on a board whose regular flasher program did not flash the boot -block, would using a different flasher like Uniflash allow me to do that?

I forgot to mention that I did have the bios chip out and attempted to boot the board with another chip. I think this may have been what fixed it. Couple of years ago, before I dared to flash a bios, I had two Asus 430FX motherboards, Pentium 75 to 133 vintage, of different Rev. numbers, both with p...

An update: I was about to try the hot-swap, but in the interim had discovered that the 32mb stick of ram I'd been using was being recognized as PC66, incompatible with the 100Mhz bus of the 350. (This doesn't explain how I had the problem also with a PII 233.) Anyhow one last try iwth a stick of 128...

Alas, I'm dead in the water. My two working PII mobos have incompatible bios chips -- one is 5V, the other is the square config. I have two boards that may be salvageable, the Soyo mentioned above and an Asus P2L97A that uses a 256kB chip. The Asus powers up but doesn't post.

Is the note I saw in another post about the number 28 or 29 at the beginning of the id number the only clue to size?

Is there a website with more information on hotflashing, particularly on identifying whether the bios flashrom is 128 or 256KByte?

I replaced the mobo battery -- it was way down, and put in a stick of 128mb PC-133 instead of the stick of old (PC-100 ?) 32mb. Results are the same -- hangs after listing the IDE drives.
Don't have a BX chipset mobo for a hotflash. Would a 440LX chipset be too different for a hotflash?
