Re: AT25F1024 - ATI BIOS modification

just search for "PCIR" in the vBIOS. the vendor id and device id are stored just behind that string in little endian encoding (1002 turns to 0210 and 94c3 to c394). you should know this: there is a checksum calculated over the vbios contents. if you modify vendor or device id you should recalc that ...

Re: Need Patched BIOS for Shuttle SS40G

With a patched BIOS you will only be able to display 1440*900 if you use Windows. With Linux and its 3rd party drivers you can choose virtually any resolution you want no matter which version the vBIOS is.
Solution if you need Windows: Use a dedicated VGA card with anything but a SiS chipset.

at least not with Windows. Either use Linux or buy a new machine.

Re: ecs board dead after wrong bios update?

Since you hear beeps when booting without memory, the bootblock is still there and working. Otherwise you wouldn't hear any beeps. Next good thing: the floppy spins up. Make sure to use a known good floppy drive and disk. Test them on another machine before anything else. Making an emergency floppy ...

Re: What would you do?

since both systems don't have a vga(-chipset) which includes a HD-capable decoder, you should get rid of them asap. If you only want HD-decoding capabilities, you should get a cheap thinclient-like system with NVidia ION IGP. they are cheap, highly living-room compatible and available with either AM...

it's either Columbia or Columbia 5P. after you identified your board, you can update the bios with the one from our bios page. make sure to remove previous SIS vga drivers and reinstall their latest drivers.

there is an interesting paper on the impact of the PCIE payload size on efficiency. i'd suggest you'd bump your OS ethernet buffers first before other things.

Re: Presumed Non-retail Mobo Issues

Yes, as are all other machines from 7 years or older well, depends on what your goals are. if you still want to use it as a desktop machine, make sure to use a fresh installation of Windows XP or a leightweight Linux of your choice. the inbuild vga is good enough for 2D. disable all those fancy win...

Re: ROM-O-matic.net , flashrom, gPXE,

rom-o-matic generates PXE roms that can be included in almost any bios to allow network boots even from pci add-on cards. and flashrom is part of the coreboot (former linuxbios) project that allows flashing all kind of chips on different hardware like mainboards, pci-cards, add-in programmers, etc. ...

Re: K6XV3+/66 jumpers doubts

I get 2.8V for the k6 II 550 MHz processor. Is it the correct voltage? NO! most K6-2 require 2.2V, only few models require more or less than that. The K6-2 550 definately requires 2.3V since it's a AGR (the G says 2.3V core voltage). 2.8V is BY FAR too much! this should deliver the required 2.3V vC...

Re: DFI P2XBL Rev DA+

take a look at this picture.

jumper the 80GB hdd to 32GB clipped. the bios won't crash anymore recognizing the drive. once your OS (Windows XP SP1 and up will work fine, every recent Linux) is booted you'll have access to the full 80GB again.
