I was going to make this post to let Kuriaki know that I have backed up the v1.10 BIOS for the SG board from a board I aquired that was running this version, since the Gigabyte site did not retain this older version on their website and in case Kuriaki wanted to archive this. But I have checked the ...

I take it you have updated your BIOS but have now lost floppy boot capability. In many cases what Denniss is suggesting will result in a default setting for the floppy drive that specifies Drive A as 1.44MB and this works. If you still have floppy problems after following Denniss's suggestion you ma...

As I understand it, you need AWARD BIOS v6 for HDD support beyond 120. However W2K and WXP bypass the BIOS and apply O/S limitations to disk sizes, meaning that if the O/S supports the full disk size, you can utilize the full disk size within the O/S. (Mind you, with the initial release of WXP for e...

You may be able to buy the battery at chemists, as I can.

Check the code on the battery first, but IIRC you are generally after a CR2032.

Some people strip front panel wires of old cases before tossing them. Then you might have the appropriate wire and button handy when one is required.

Sometimes I have gotten around faulty PCI slots and RAM slots by using other available slots and the system still runs well. But if the failure effects other areas of the board (whether you know it or not) then you will still be plagued with problems.

Thanks again but I will leave the existing 166 at 166MHz. The faster CPUs are just spares that I have but I don't want to spend any money on the system or overclock the system.

Thanks for the tips anyway.

It should not be this difficult to get an O/S to run cleanly. I still suspect a board or power supply fault - in the meantime you are just pushing the limits of what the system can work with.

Thanks for the suggestion but personally I stay away from overclocking.

I was hoping to install either a 166MMX or 200MMX but the increase between these and the existing 166MHz non-MMX would have only been prefferred rather than necessary for the intended usage of this PC.

Thanks Denniss That is what I was hoping to find out. With no dual voltage I will now leave the existing Pentium 166MHz non-MMX in the board, which is almost the best that it will run. I'd rather not install a CPU that the board does not properly support. Out of curiousity at this stage, any BIOS up...

If the board does not support HT, the BIOS cannot add HT support. Denniss seems to think the board does not support HT. My position is that I do not know if the board supports HT. If you want to find out whether the board is a HT board, check it's specs - probably on the website I directed you to. I...

Well in the meantime, at least the video card you ordered should be a handy spare when troubleshooting systems in the future.

I have to say that I agree with Denniss. As both he clearly stated and as I also pointed out eariler, both the board and BIOS must support hyper-threading.

If not, it does not matter what BIOS you install, you will not be able to use a HT (hyper-threading CPU).
