I agree more and more with my one of my initial suggestions and Nick's advice - the RAM, either bad RAM or poor contacts.

Or poor contacts somewhere else.

After re-reading the history of this post, I suspect something on the mainboard has developed a fault which is causing the problems with the BIOS not remembering settings.

Is it only the HDD settings that the BIOS does not remember, or also other settings?

I actually suspect a faulty board but I agree updating to the most recent stable BIOS for this board is worth a try. Before you do so though, try re-seating your cards and RAM a few times, and while you do so do ensure that the cards are properly seated when you re-seat them (if you take note when y...

The initial release of Windows XP only recognised the first 128GB. XP SP2 recognises much more - I am running a 200GB disk with no problems and I think it should recognise your 300GB (not sure though). I am not sure about XP SP1. The only other thing I should mention is that I installed the 200GB di...

Maybe go into Windows Safe Mode and remove all occurrences of mouse devices from device manager. Then reboot and see if the mouse re-detects and operates correctly. Are you sure the mouse is fine? And you haven't by any chance plugged the mouse into a keyboard port (if present)? If all the above fai...

If the BIOS upgrade file is fragmented directly into six pieces, with no other code or tricks seperating the data in the six files, you could consider joining the six files into one file and try flashing this.

But I admit this is risky, and may corrupt your BIOS if it fails.

Probably you will have no sucess but sometimes I think it is still worth e-mailing the manufacturer and asking if they have a BIOS update that will recognise at least up to 32GB. Sometimes there may be images that for some reason are not posted on the site. If a BIOS image supports 32GB or more, it ...

Are you using the CRT unit? Programs compiled using Turbo Pascal using the CRT unit will often fail to run, on machines starting about with early Pentiums onwards. I think this has something to do with the compiler assuming a fixed VGA IRQ and most common systems using PnP and therefore a floating I...

I would suggest trying Uniflash except I am not sure if this is meant for Asus boards.

If someone else can verify this detail this is probably the next I would suggest.

If the BIOS does not remember settings, it simply sounds like the CMOS battery needing replacing, or perhaps not making proper contact. The AUTO settings that you keep ending up with could be the settings that the BIOS is resetting to default each time the settings are lost (due to the bad battery)....

Do you not get video in BIOS or are you only talking about the O/S? As for shutdown, Windows may power off the system when you use the shutdown option but if you are using the case power button you often need to hold the button down for several seconds (5 or more seconds sometimes) before the system...

I suspect a buggy BIOS. Especially if three people have the same problem there is likely to be something other at stake than faulty hardware. It would be interesting to know what BIOS versions everyone is running off, and then for someone willing to try a different BIOS version and see if OK. If eve...

Also worth checking that cards are properly seated. For example on some systems the video card gets dislodged easisly when plugging in the VGA cable. Since you have recently re-connected it, the card could have become unseated when you plugged in the cable.

Check that all cards are seated properly; especially the video card (unless on-board). Make sure also that drive cables are in properly at both the board and the drive. If you have disconnected and reconnected any drives recently, ribbon cables could be reversed or off-set, or drives could have jump...
