Try performing a Clear CMOS. Your manual should indicate the process.

It should, but don't forget that Win98's FDISK is buggy... it'll display less than the drive's capacity if the HDD is over 64GB in size, but it'll FDISK properly (if and only if the HDD is supported by the BIOS).

V1.0 or V1.1 PCB?

Look for swollen capacitors, or try another PSU...

Are you sure all the components were ok before?

What's your mobo and BIOS release?

Have you browsed the intel site thoroughly?

Try clearing CMOS to restore default settings.

Did you flash its BIOS recently?

Not failproof but worth a try.

Hotflash or an EEPROM programmer.

You may require a Clear CMOS, or reflashing...

Seen that... possibly faulty PSU or swollen onboard capacitors...

IIRC, if you have HDDs from 0 to 3 (aka 1 to 4), the numbering sequence is usually:

PM, SM, PS, SS

P_=primary
S_=secondary
_M=master
_S=slave

...but I've seen some BIOSes do the PM, PS, SM, SS sequence too...
