Why don't you try the universal AMI-based flasher? Get it from Gigabyte's site, for example.

Sometimes, static electricity can be quite nasty... I've seen this happen on some boards... And the problem used to be somewhat faulty PSUs...

I believe it's quite risky with such new systems. If I were you, I'd look around for sites with unofficial ECS BIOS releases/patches....

It's compatibility generally has to do with the BIOS chip itself, so considering your old board, it should work.

Is it possible your mobile P3 is a 733 (fsb133)? In this case, when running at fsb100, you'd get your 550MHz...

That card might requiere the presence of a certain impedance at boot in order to initialize itself... who knows... maybe the one provided by your monitor is too low.

Get yourself a 5$ second-hand board somewhere and try hotflashing there... I used to resort to that way way back...
