OK, potted flashing guide. You need a basic DOS boot disk with no himem.sys, etc. We usually recommend the DRDOS diskette image from http://motherboards.mbarron.net/download/drdflash.exe. On the disk you need the flash program, AWDFLASH.EXE or whatever, and the BIOS file in .BIN form. The BIOS file ...

OK, if you're sure you have a Chicony 989, there's a patched BIOS at the "untested" link in my signature, (Chicony 989).zip. Please let us have feedback. Don't forget to use /cc /cd /cp switches on the flasher command line to clear all existing CMOS etc settings, note down what you need to beforehan...

Just for the record, a user at www.Amilo-Forums.com says that the 258SAx service manual shows there are 6 screws holding the CPU heatsink on but there are actually only 5 on the Amilo D1845. Tom, any news? I didn't realise the BIOS ROM was so accessible - just take the bottom plate off and there it ...

Well, I got the manual - not a lot of help, as it does not list jumper settings. It states that the BIOS is a 32-pin PLCC, 4 Mbit device. A block diagram shows that the BIOS is accessed through the keyboard controller. The CMOS is incorporated in the Sis963 Southbridge and I can't find a reference t...

Lillekillen, can you try a work-around? Disconnect the HDD when you want to enter CMOS setup - leave the IDE type as Auto/Auto. Edwin, we have seen a couple of patched BIOSes that hung in CMOS setup. The IDE display I can understand - it may be that some versions of BIOS have a slightly different si...
