Well, it seems to be simple if you have Nero. 1. Download A40.exe and use it to create a floppy that has the flash files. 2. Create a bootable floppy that has no memory drivers, ramdrives, etc but does have the CD driver and the flash files. I used boot98sc.exe from www.bootdisk.com and butchered it...

Hi, sorry but we are all volunteers here and don't watch the board around the clock.
Option 1 sounds reasonable.
I'm just trying right now to create a bootable CD following the instructions in this article, as I've not done it before.

Are you in the EU? If so, you may have 2 years warranty. Effective from 1st January 2002, the EU Directive to extend warranty on consumer products from 1- to 2- years, came into effect. This directive only impacts EU member state countries and will be phased in as the EU member states implement the ...

Sorry for the delay - I guess you're using XP Home, which I don't have access to today as I'm using XP Professional at work. Do you get a noise ("bloo-bloop") when you plug the case into the USB port? If not, check in Device Manager. Assuming you're using the default Control Panel setup: 1. Click St...

Sorry for the delay, I've been on a couple of courses. I was wondering whether there was a mismatch between the BIOS file size and the device size, but they are both 4 Mbits. So that's not the reason. The fact that you have managed to boot it once makes me think that it is not a BIOS problem and you...

It sounds as though the ACPI is not well supported in the current BIOS, so I can understand your desire to update. What I meant by BIOS chip type was 29F004 or similar. BIOS EEPROM chips have a signature that identifies the chip type so that BIOS flash programs (e.g. Uniflash) can handle them correc...

during installation setup, xp asked to press F6 to use other devices, i was advised to press F5 instead. however, my cpu speed has dropped from 1.6G to 600MHZ after the successful installation. I would suggest a utility like Notebook Hardware Control (NHC) to see whether you can vary the CPU speed....

OK, that's a 49LF004B LPC (Low Pin Count) chip, equivalent to a FWH (Firmware Hub) and so it is probably not easy to fool it into thinking that the firmware is corrupt to force bootblock recovery. On your motherboard, is the chip at bottom left of the picture in a socket? If so your best bet will be...

The FAQ is not quite correct. A PC133 DIMM cannot always be be used instead of a PC100 DIMM. Other factors have to be taken into account such as the RAM organisation: I assume that you read the FAQ section on 256MB DIMMs. If these factors are OK, there is a good chance that it will work. One reason ...
