The file you downloaded from Abit contain file(s) zipped into it. Run the File and Extract them to the floppy along with the flash program.

Propriatary design
The design of motherboard is completely propriatary, not standard ATX.

no telling
There is no way of knowing whether or not this will work. What I can tell you is that the chip and board were not altered in anyway. The BIOS was just flashed with the Compaq version.

Try loading the BIOS defaults and clearing the CMOS jumper.

Reseat
You could also try reseating the RAM just in case. Also try building the system outside the case to illiminate the possibility of a short.

Out of sync
The distro seems to be trying to run console or X (depending on where it is in the boot process) at a higher frequency then your monitor is capable of using. I encountered this problem when I set the console to use 1024X768 and then switched to an older monitor that was only capable of using 640X480...
