maman: I have used this trick to prevent Modbin6 from complaining in my dual-boot system with NTFS partition: Unpack xgroup, group, and cpucode using Cbrom215. Then proceed with editing the resulting bios image file with Modbin6, and you won't have any more problem saving the changes. And simply put...

Denniss:

Yes, that's my bios.

Have tried all alternatives including the ones you suggested. No go. It's "bios hacking" that's needed.

maman:

Have tried changing to bit 0 the default for Address 9Ch in the bios chipset registry defaults, still no go.

Motherboard Model: Tomato V630E Motherboard ID: SIS-630-6A6IRC19C-00 Too bad that the manufacturer removed the bios download support from their site. The onboard video disabling feature is also not included in bios setup. What if onboard video ceases to function properly? Shall we just throw away th...

As you have gone this far, there are 6 things I suspect that's causing the problem: 1. Incorrect version of flash utility 2. Incorrect command switches used with the flash utility 3. Corrupt bios image file used in flashing 4. Bad RAM 5. Defective floppy drive 6. Bad bios rom blocks/Defective mother...

It's Tomato mainboard, SIS 630E chipset, P3 procesor, Award BIOS v6PG.

The last bios update from the manufacturer's website was in 2001.

Here are some inputs that might speed up our bios hacking process to disable onboard video: I'm pretty sure that the PCI VGA Initialization Routine is pre-included with boot block, because my PCI VGA Card is functional whenever I force boot block to execute. I mean I always had video when I connect ...

Have tried removing VGA ROM from bios bin file using Cbrom215 before, it did not work. Got video initialization failure beep after flashing the bios, but the system went on to load the OS even without video.

I'm booting to WinXP Pro-SP1, stand-alone PC.

I can always set time and date in Windows manually, but my problem is how to set bios defaults for these without entering bios setup upon boot up. Modbin6 1.00.38 does not have that feature.

Battery is out of the question for my system. Had tried many new batteries, didn't work. Had run several good hardware diagnostic software, battery status is OK. It's the RTC "clock ticking" that failed the diagnostic tests, and "CMOS update cycle not coming" problem as well. In short, it's a mainbo...

Maman: Thanks for your sincere efforts to help. Please keep me posted on this. Also, we are going to patch the decompression area and not the boot block area, is this correct? I would be glad if patching is done within the decompression area only, as I wouldn't have to worry about not being able to ...

Ok, and now it's clear to me that it's your BIOS bin file that does not properly support WinXP-SP2. That's why it got self-corrupted along the way when you installed SP2. Not the other way around, because Windows could not directly manipulate the BIOS bin file and save the changes into it in run tim...

I'm confused how that happened using WinXP-SP2. I'm having no problems using WinXP Pro SP1 on an Intel Pentium 3 mainboard running at 800MHz. SP2 is supposed to be more stable and reliable than SP1. And as far as I know, SP2 is not officially released yet. Also, I've never heard of any OS that manip...

My add-on video card is PCI-based, not AGP. And my board doesn't have an AGP slot. Had this PCI VGA Card tested before I bought it, and it was automatically detected and was functional on WinXP Pro (but this test board has no onboard video). Lately, this PCI VGA Card of mine has been detected in my ...

It's not a problem for me setting the date/time in OS, but I expect this setting to be volatile (as it's not hardcoded in BIOS ROM). This setting would be retained in CMOS RAM I believe, but since my CMOS forgets its settings when booted from cold I think setting the date/time in OS is not the long-...

My RTC is now dead, but I don't get a "Checksum Error" or "Press F1..." anymore. Thanks to Rainbow. He was right about setting the default for "Halt On..." to "No Errors" in the BIOS ROM. Now I get a straight loading of my OS even from a cold boot. And I don't have to worry about my CMOS forgetting ...
