Rainbow:

Thanks for this information.

But can I hotflash these 3.3V FWH flash ROMs on another mobo with similar 3.3V PLCC socket if the chipset is not intel?

Rainbow: I made a mistake with the chipset in my first post. The board is ASUS P4VP-MX. Other details as follows: Northbridge --- VIA VT8751A (or P4 M266A) Southbridge --- VIA VT8235 Super I/O ------ Winbond W83697HF BIOS ----------- AMI Original Flash ROM --- SST 49LF030A --- 3.3V FWH x 256 KB Ther...

Unknown Flash with UniFlash

Why is Uniflash v1.40 not able to detect 3.3v flash ROMs on a P4 mobo with SIS 730/740 chipset? Does this mean that Uniflash works only with Intel chipset when flashing these 3.3V FWH Flash ROMs? I've tried several known good 3.3V Flash ROMs already, including the original 3.3V Flash ROM that comes ...

I have also tried this shorting trick with 3.3V Flash ROMs being configured as Firmware Hub such as your Flash ROM, but no joy so far.

Anyone having success on this?

Thanks NickS. That P.H.D. PCI sounds like the ultimate in mainboard dignostics. Looks like the answer to my problem how to determine which component prevented my board from executing bootblock, as can be seen in the features in these links: http://www.uxd.com/phdpcifeatures.shtml http://www.uxd.com/...

Yeah, it worked.

But can't this be done automatically within Uniflash in future versions?

I mean, instead of prompting a "size mismatch" error message why not prompt to "create 512KB image" for flashing?

Uniflash v1.38 now works fine with W49F002U flash ROM.

Great work on a great universal flash utility!

Again, it's not a flash ROM issue.

Is there any better POST Card/Diagnostic Card than the regular ones sold? I mean, one that tells us what specific mainboard component is failing?

I would be willing to invest in such diagnostic card if there is one.

EPOX 8KTA3 PRO BIOS ISSUE

Hi BIOS Gurus, I have 2 Epox 8KTA3 Pro mobos having a similar problem with the PS2 keyboard port. PS2 keyboard isn't detected and you hear a high-pitched intermittent tone from the speaker after memory is detected, and the system just hangs there. IS THIS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THIS BOARD? Have flashed ...

Alright, but what specific part or chip maybe at fault here?

Actually, this is not the first time that I've encountered similar problem with other boards from other manufacturers. But it helps if we know what specific part or chip is causing this problem.

To ajzchips: Thank you very much for this link. Reading through the manual in that link you suggested, I'm pretty sure now that my board is M741LMRT. But the system still can't boot after flashing the bios with the latest bios update for m741lmrt. I'm now stucked and don't know what exactly is preve...

It's an ATX board.

It's more like an M741 than an M748, and maybe I just need the exact bios image for Revision 1.4D board. Where do I find this bios image?

Sulbert:

Your trick did work. Uniflash happily burned the appended 2Mbit images into the 512Kb flash ROM.

But please help me understand the logic behind it. Does it mean that the 2nd 2Mbit image is there to serve just as a backup bios image?

Yes, the Northbridge heatsink is marked GFXcel which means that it is SIS 630 chipset. But I doubt that it is SIS 630 northbridge because the southbridge chipset is SIS 5595. As far as I know, SIS 630 chipset has the southbridge already integrated into it and so does not need any southbridge on the ...
