Re: pcchips problem please help my sanity!
If it is an M787CLM, then it is the Amptron version with on-board LAN. Have you tried going into the BIOS and disabling the onboard LAN under Features Setup?

Re: 6A69VM4GC
Would the complete string be something like: 10/16/2001-i845-W627HF-6A69VM4GC-00 ?
If so, it is an MSI MS-6534 motherboard:

The board uses a 4Mbit flash memory chip - what is printed on the chip surface? Do the other chips you tried compare - ie. are they the same manufacturer and part number?

In spite of what everyone claims/denies, it is an Intel VS440FX (Venus) OEM board supplied to Gateway by Intel. The Intel BIOS for their board is 1.00.xx.CS1, the OEM version adds the T suffix to indicate Gateway 2000. This is an ATX board with a PentiumPro processor - did you wish to re-use the pro...

Re: What brand is this board?
Check the string again - are you sure it isn't something closer to 06/18/1998-i440FX-2A69HS29C-00 FA-0618? If so, it would be a SOYO SY-6FA. The questionable part of the string is 2A69H529C. Is the 5 possibly an S?
