The only odd thing I can see are the four 9-pin headers. Haven't got a good explanation for that second battery clip in the middle of the board either. I saw somewhere the SIS5598 chipset was designed with the Cyrix processor in mind. As for the CPU, I strongly suggest you stay with the 233 MHz (PR-...

I've seen stranger things happen. You have tried both PS/2 connectors? If my brain does not entirely fail me, there has been a batch of backplate stickers that had the keyboard and mouse port locations swapped. AFAIK they are interchangeable with the latest bios loaded.

The both of you: please list exactly what hardware you are using. Motherboard, 1394 solution (be it on-board, card, whatever) and devices. Both brand and model. I have a feeling not everything is as it should be with this new stuff (as usual), have seen similar issues in the past with CD boot, LS-12...

Just for the record, which drive do you have?

NS8 or NS20, manual load or autoload?

What firmware did you use on the drive?

The net result of using a standard windows setup disk should not have any effect on the bios of the machine. Try and get the machine to boot in safe mode (F8 key during startup).

bios checksum error usually results from empty CMOS battery or power supply problems. Replace the CMOS battery first (least expensive, easiest to do).

It works. The modification is being analyzed by Rainbow to see if it will work on other bioses too.

Hmmm, not going to be easy. Usually those cards want a PCI slot that is 2.1 spec compliant. I don't know that much 486-based boards that have those. What motherboard are we dealing with exactly (make/model)?

From what I know now it is a board with a sis5598 chipset. What I do not know is what it looks like. If the board has regular onboard I/O and PCI/ISA slots, I really wouldn't know why it shouldn't work. Can you send in a picture or scan? There may even be settings listed on the board itself, we migh...

Thought it was a joke but is this board (called 5SFV here): http://www.aus.at/support/suppp.htm for the PhotoPlay machines you see everywhere indeed. I've emailed them but I don't really expect an answer... Found another shred of info: http://216.239.51.100/search?q=cache:dN89-3D00GUC:195.12.138.225...
