Are there different battery's or are they all the same ???

Hi I got a problem with an old mobo. (pentium 233) Everytime on boot it displays the following mess: CMOS bad checksum error Then i can press F1 and i get to BIOS. I change time and date and save it. Now it starts up and everythings workin fine now. My guess is that the battery is dead. Am i correct...
