First time post here, appologies if this post is redundant. I searched but did not find this particular issue addressed.

First off, i had a hard drive failure. and could not log onto the cpu.

In an attempt to boot the computer some other way (i am a bit ignorant when it comes to some of this stuff) a friend changed some boot settings. that didn't work so after putzing about in bios he ended up changing it to failsafe/default mode. At this point my monitor ceased receiving a signal. The computer itself was still making all of the "usual" sounds. But obviously this prevents me from getting back into bios.

I saw a post about a problem similar to this, where there remedy was said to be to plug the monitor back into the on board video port, since the video card was aftermarket. In my case my video card is an ati catalyst and there is no on board video port that i can plug my monitor into.

I am fairly certain that i will need to get bios fixed up before tackling the hard drive. but since i have no way to signal my monitor, i have a feeling that i may be hosed.

Thanks in advance.

Try performing a Clear CMOS. Your manual should indicate the process.

Check that the video card (if not on-board) has not become unseated.
