Hi all!

I hope I can get some ideas here.. I have a HP pavilion 8495 computer that I got for my daughter.. I can't figure it out but for some reason when booting up, it flashes to a blue screen that says "dpms standby mode" then right after it changes to say "dpms off mode" then the monitor turns off but the computer finishes booting. I can only turn the power off and try again. This will do this 3 to 4 times in a row before it finally boots all the way and is fine until the next time I restart it. This is driving me nuts.. can anyone shed some light on this??? Do I need to upgrade my bios? I got this info from "bios agent"...

bios date: 04/26/99
type: phoenixBIOS 4.0 release 6.0 A
bios ID: unknown
OEM Sign-on: none
chipset: intel 440bx/zx rev3
superio: unknown
OS: ms windows XP version:5.1.2600 service pack 2
CPU: pentium III 551mhz
bios rom in socket: unknown
bios rom size: unknown
memory installed 319MB
memory maximum: unknown.

I'm not sure if that helps but there it is...

I went into setup and the power saving settings were turned off (I then tried to reboot with different settings of power management but no change.. also the power management is set to "always on" in XP .

do I need to upgrade my bios? all those "unknown" results make me think maybe something is wrong but I am by no means an expert..

this happens with the onboard video and after I installed a AGP card. no difference..

I really appreciate any help! thanks..

It appears that WinXP and Win2000 are not supported "officially" on this machine, and *may* not be fully compatible.

The last BIOS looks to be v1.09 (06-25-1999) as found on the Win95/98 page.
