As with many other Noobs, I recently bought an Acer AL1916WAbd monitor and want to display at 1440x900 resolution. I’ve checked many posts but can’t see my h/w combination anywhere. Please forgive me if I’ve missed it.

Motherboard: Shuttle Inc, SS56V30, ID 05/17/2005 - - 6A7I4hBC-00
Chipset: SiS 661 FX
Bios: FS56S30A
vBios: 0.68.00

I have installed the monitor driver as follows:

http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/forms/ ... &areaid=12

I have flashed the bios to the latest version shown on Shuttle hp as follows:

http://global.shuttle.com/download03.jsp?PI=490

and I have updated the SiS VGA driver package as follows:

http://driver.sis.com/graphic/igp/uniVGA3/uvga3_383.zip

Even with all of that the 1440x900 resolution is not shown as an option and having read the need to have vBios installed at version 2.28 or above I suspect I need a patched bios file?

I tried running 'LCDMode.exe' but get an “entry point not found” error.

I would really appreciate any advice or directions to try next. Please ask if I’ve missed out any key info. Thanks

CP,
Many thanks for the patched bios file.

I flashed it using Winflash and now shows vbios version 2.51.00 but sadly no change to the range of resolutions on offer. Max remains at 1280x1024.

Please let me know if there are some other things I can try or any more I information I can give to let you understand the problem in more detail.

here's hoping for the best
thanks again.

Thanks again for your quick support CP,

Tried that, but still no luck !
Is there any specific order that they need to loaded in?

someone wrote that you need to unpack the new drivers somewhere, uninstall the old drivers, reboot and wait for windows to prompt for drivers for the new found vga adapter. now select the directory where you unpacked the new drivers and reboot after installation.

CP you're a star !

Reply being typed in full wide screen 1440x900 resolution.

As you suggested I unpacked the updated vga driver set and uninstalled the existing drivers, rebooted and reinstalled when prompted.

Properties now show:
Adapter type: SiS Mirage Graphics
vBios: 2.51.00
Driver date: 10/3/2007
Driver version: 6.14.10.3830

Thanks for all your help and hope it helps out someone else along the way.
cheers !
