I am sort of a newbie so I need some help with my new 19" monitor whose native resolution is 1440 x 900. I have a Microstar MS-6540 mainboard with an integrated SiS 661FX chipset. It is well documented in the forums the problems with getting this chipset to work with 1440 x 900. I have downloaded and installed the latest version of the BIOS but it still wont work. My VBIOS version is only 0.68.00 and SiS says on their website I need 2.28.00 or above in order to get the 1440 x 900 working. I have tried downloading the latest SiS drivers but I just get errors upon startup. I have more options after the new driver install but some of the new resolutions won't work. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also have the same problem with the same set up. I upgraded the bios with the new version on the MSI website but SiS is still the old version. Can you please send me the patched bios?

i used the link, and went from there on, but couldnt find the 661fx iso file anywhere? maybe i'm just blind! and i have the ms 7060 v.1 motherboard. but it wasnt on the list.
so i have just downloaded the MSI 6540 bios from the link instead.
because it seems that joeveli, the guy that started this thread, has a mainbord ( the msi 6540) that has the 661fx grafics as well), when i open the downloaded file, there is no iso file?? there is a file called:
661xm775.f2
shouldnt there be an iso file instead, so i can patch my motherboard with the cbrom software??
so.. anyone, could i please have the new 661fx vbios iso file( i think its an iso file) so i can use my monitor?`
here is a link to my motherboard:

this is a nice example of why i wrote the general info thread on this subsection.
1. you are posting in a thread about the MS-6540 which is clearly stated in the first post. so i could assume that you have a MS-6540, too.
2. bios files are binary files. an .iso file is an image of an optical disc (DVD/CD).
3. cbrom is a tool to patch bios files. it is NOT a tool to flash bios files into the bios chip of your mainboard.
4. the files on the download page are already prepatched (that's the reason for the download page anyway). no need to patch anything there. just flash them.
5. there is a patched bios file for the MS-7060 on the download page, too.
