i just got my computer back from hp and come to find out they just reflashed the bios but instead of the v3.13 they put v3.14 on for me... and my hd was damage replaced that also.. no more high 100% cpu

I just wanted to give some feedback. This is the second major problem I have had with this Compaq computer.(SR1850NX) The first was the onboard LAN wouldn't connect to my DSL modem. After spending hours on the phone with Compaq and my DSL provider, I, and not Compaq support, found a driver update that solved the issue. Well, at least I can connect to my DSL modem, but windows still gives me a limited connectivity warning. I updated all my software and drivers including the 3.13 bios. Not realizing the bios was slowing the computer down, I wondered why the CPU utilization was always over 70% and this computer didn't seem any faster than my old computer. I tried to solve the problem by uninstalling software and reinstalling windows until I realized it had to be a hardware/driver issue. I spent over an hour on the phone with Compaq and they totally hosed my computer. I had to do a full system restore. I have no respect for Compaq support or JD Power! Finally, I found this forum and installed the 3.14 bios. I also removed most of the unnecessary software that comes on this computer. Now my CPU usage is 0% when no applications are running and it is always below 50%.

Please send me this bios 3.14 for my SR1834NX It runs slower then a fat man in mud. 3.13 distroyed my CPU useage. Thank you so much for helping everybody!

I have the same problem that CPU usage is over 50% when no applications are running, and I find that it is because of the VIA OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller. When I disable it, the CPU works well.

But it is not the best way to resolve this problem. So can anybody send me the BIOS Version 3.14 too, thanks a lot!

I would like it if anyone could send me the bios 3.14 bios update for A8AE-LE. My system is a Compaq SR1834NX and the CPU usage never goes below 65%.

I have talked to HP, for about 2 hours, they say that this is normal..... I have tested my performance with passmark, my system is slower than a P3 - 900....

Try to disable VIA OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 host controller.
