Most likely that is somewhere in the southbridge of the chipset and that is exactly the problem with the 3.13 bios, it has no support for the SB450 that is used on some of these boards instead of the SB400. Bios 3.14 should get the 1394 controller going again.

This thread is becoming famous enough that I had to sign up just to request the BIOS! :
Would someone be so kind?
I'm not having too many issues with the CPU usage on my Pavilion A1230N, as I replaced the original MCE edition XP with XP-Pro pretty quickly. I have since migrated to Ubuntu.
I am having a hard time with random lockups and the CPU will randomly kick up to 100% rpm, only way to turn back down is reboot.
FWIW: I've used Speedfan, and it works like magic mostly, but when the fan kicks on as described, Speedfan can do nothing for it.
Also, though this system has SATA drives, the drive read/write speeds seem to be very slow. I'm hoping this BIOS may help alleviate those issues.
Thanks!

Geeze... I promised myself I'd never use this phrase on the 'Net...
"Me Too" For my Compaq/Presario SR1710NX
If instructions and any utilities are needed, please include them or the linky-poo.
Another question:
Will the new lower AMD prices apply to the dual CPUs for this board?
Tina
P.S.: 3.14 BIOS for AmberineM w/instructions and install utility

dgruhin posted a link to an easy to use flash utility that works within Windows. It's a free DL at www.unicore.com/techsupport/UTILS/winflash.zipAmberine314bios wrote:Ed,edwin wrote:links and instructions in the start of this thread. bios file: you've got mail.

I used it to flash my BIOS in WinXP Pro/SP2. It took less than 2 minutes, including re-boot, not including the pre-flash system drive back-up.
3.14 works fine, but I had no trouble with 3.13. Except for knowing I'm up-to-date, I can't tell a difference.
Thank you again!

that's the same winflash I link to in my first posting in my thread. Some people have a working system running 3.13 and they won't see great improvements running 3.14 but if you do have troubles with 3.13 the 3.14 bios seems to make a world of difference.

WOW, THAT WAS FAST... within 5 minutes of my request, the bios update was in my inbox, and i immediately installed it.. no problems whatsoever, and it seems to be running sooooo much better..Props .
Does anybody experience this issue after 3.14 bios flashed. My machine is Compaq sr1710nx. When bootup, system fan failure was detected and have to press F2 to continue. I am not even able to get in bios setup menu any more. When get into XP, new hardware was found and ask me to install driver.
Any comment will be appreciated.
