My 2 watts:
I have the same PC, and received the same error after updating to 3.14. Since the SR1710NX box did not come with a system fan, I see why the new BIOS says what it does. I don't know if the old BIOS (3.13 or earlier) was not capable of detecting a system fan, or the 3.14 is set up to detect it by default and 3.13 detection was set to off because of the lack of a system fan as the SR1710NX was sold.
It takes a little practice and experimentation to get into the set-up, but you can do it. I had the same trouble. Try hitting F1 before, during, after... so on. You will find the correct time to hit the F1 by trial and error.
Because I installed two extra HDDs, the inside of the box was too warm for my liking and the original 100GB Maxtor got quite hot. This morning I figured it was time to install a fan to blow on the HDD bay. It's hooked up to the system fan connector next to the parallel/printer connector on the mobo. I don't get the system fan failure error any more at boot-up.
I still get the "New Hardware Found" when XP/SP2 boots. I simply told it to no longer detect the hardware, and have not been bothered since. It's possible there's a WinXP/SP2 hardware monitor (system temp) that is missing it's driver. With BIOS 3.13 and earlier, WinXP didn't look for the system fan driver, now it does..

Hope this helps
