Is this a restore-CD windows install or a vanilla one? In the second case you need to install drivers for the chipset. Else I'd check for viruses using an updated virusscanner, a good free one is AVG http://free.grisoft.com

http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func ... o=2458&i=0

heres the real link for the away driver

i updated my 1710 to 4200x2 3gb ram and an 2600xt card lol

stupid compaq bios is under clocked to 199
no ram settings at all is running 3-3-8
oh well ,when i bought this at crap usa for 199 no rebate you just knew they were giving it away for some reason

if anyone had the knowledge to mod this bios and screw compaq then that would more than rock

anyway its vista score is 4.9 cpu 4.9 mem 5.9 aero 5.4 gaming and 5.3 hard drive so cant complain to much ,just think if you could actually slightly overclock.

New to this site...I've read thru all 29 pages of this post and didn't see anything about this.

I have the Compaq 1710 and have a few questions about upgrading the bios. I installed an XFX 7200GS 256mb video card and would like to increase the video memory in Bios (which is greyed out at 64 mb). Will version 3.14 help me with this? Computer does runs slow w/786mb ram, but works OK(I use XP home which came installed). I would hate to screw up my system by installing new Bios.

Any suggestions, I've built systems before but never attempted to tinker with bios.

Thanks

Edwin,
I was given your name (and this site) as a place where I could get the BIOS update for a Compaq SR1630NX. I was going to upgrade the CPU, and was told the new BIOS really helps for this (and other things).
I was also told you'd have to e-mail it to me. I don't want to put you through too much trouble, but if you (or anyone else here) could e-mail the BIOS to "planetearth at tampabay.rr.com", I'd appreciate it.
Thanks for the update, and thanks for this site! It provides a great service!

i just updated my bios from 3.13 to 3.14 for no real reason

once i got system fan off everything worked fine, thx for the new link to amd away driver btw, the old one wasnt working

my only question is what are the regular cpu temps, i got a sr1710nx and i get a constant 40c cpu temp with about 1285 cpu fan rpms, this is with default settings, is this about right for everyone? "using everest to check" in bios my cpu temp always is around 30c, but on windows using everest it says 40c , that seems a bit high everyother comp i had was 27c-32c

please let me know if this is normal for you guys also! thx.

if you install the AMD away driver and then reboot, then update the driver for your CPU?
