BIOS Updates forum

Hello,
I have two identhical MB with plcc soldered bioses, one is good, the other is bad (flashed).
Chips are SST49LF080A LPC8 type.
I have also some spare new plcc sockets and one blank SST49LF080A from ebay.
I would like to build my own "Top Hat Flash".

After bootup, it can manually be lifted off the original BIOS chip, so the original BIOS can be reflashed after a failure. The RST# pin is wired to OE# on the spare chip, otherwise it's wired 1:1. Top Hat Flash is equipped with a Winbond W39V040AP FWH. It may rely on particular circuitry on the mainboard to operate.

From what I read it involves modifying the connections on the chip on your motherboard. I think you might as well use a hot-air gun to desolder the chip and put in a socket, then an already flashed chip with the right bios...
