I have an old Pentium 1 (200mhz) mobo made by Intel. After taking my PC with me when I travelled a few years ago it seems that some thing had happened to the PS2 Socket while the PC was in cargo. And ever since I have not been able to use a PS2 keyboard with it not even in DOS. I bought several keyboards thinking the keyboards were bad but I later discovered they all work just fine on other PCs but not in this specific socket which seems to have been damaged or had the signal path blocked some how.
Yet at the same time the mouse is working in that same connector but in the mouse marked socket (2 sockets: Mouse+Keybd).

The mobo has the standard 2 socket PS2 on top of each other soldered to the PCB.

Is this likely a damaged I/O chip ?
or is it just a bad connection/crack in the connector itself that can be fixed or be replaced with a new one.

If this was a problem with the chip why is the Mouse working on the same PS2 bus.

can some one with experience in these situations shed some light on how to remedy this problem.

or where to get replacement parts for it.

Do the keyboard LEDs (Num, Caps and Scroll Lock) blink when you plug the keyboard in (or power up the computer)?
If no, then there is no power on the connector's 5V pin - maybe blown fuse. PS/2 keyboard pinout is here http://www.hardwarebook.net/connector/u ... rdpc6.html.

I've seen stranger things happen. You have tried both PS/2 connectors? If my brain does not entirely fail me, there has been a batch of backplate stickers that had the keyboard and mouse port locations swapped. AFAIK they are interchangeable with the latest bios loaded.

No there is no power ; only dimmly lit LEDs on the keyboard, and I mean the LED light is hardly noticable unless I cover it under my hand while looking.

Where do I find the fuse; or is this part of a PSU problem (ATX).

by the way ; why is the mouse working if there isn't enough voltage ... just curious?

Yes I tried both as I am not a stranger to this sticker problem which I came across prior to buying the PC with this mobo we are talking about.
That one was an NEC made tower unit that came with the mouse & keyboard labels swapped (anda busted Power Supply!!!!).
So I wised up to that when I got this one, and have used it for six months prior to the socket failure. As such I am sure it was CORRECTLY labeled -- until this problem started after I got it from the airport.

Now is this latest bios you talk about available for Pentium 1 mother boards ?
This board with the failed PS2 is from a Sony VAIO tower (the first VAIO batch to have 200Mhz). As you can tell, the mobo has a sony label (well labeled all thru), but of course it is a custom board/bios which displays the SONY logo at boot.
I do not mind replacing the bios if it will resolve my keyboard problem.

I got no support or reply from the VAIO support site so I just forgot about. well pending the day a fix is found.
